Rain Chains & Dangles
Copper Rain Chains and Garden Jewelry
I love rain chains! I love how beautiful they look dangling from a gutter accessorizing a house. I love their functionality. It amazes me how the rain is wicked along the chain’s path so prettily to the ground. I love how a rain chain sways a bit in the breeze. I love them whether they are used as a downspout or as garden jewelry hanging from an eave or a tree. In Brazil, a rain chain is a bare bones functional tool; a simple galvanized chain, dropped to the ground. I love those too!
My rain chains are made from copper tubing, formed copper sheet, wire and often, found or interesting bits and bobs. The fish chain is a decorative dangler, not a functioning rain chain. It’s attached directly to a house eave that doesn’t have a gutter. (We have gutter-less structures in California!) I hand formed the hollow copper fish and coupled them vintage brass industrial steam floats.
The leaf rain chain makes a gentle sound when the tips of the leaves brush the links of the chain. I use a copper fold forming technique to make realist looking leaves and hang them within copper tubing rings.
You can visit my rain chains in person at Bungalow Press, Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles or contact me for custom work.
